Dr. Hoang Lien Son is a forestry expert with over 30 years of experience, including nearly three decades at the Vietnam Academy of Forest Sciences. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry Engineering, a Master of Science in Forestry, and a Ph.D. in Forest Rehabilitation Research.
Dr. Son has dedicated his career to advancing sustainable forest management and linking scientific research with policy and practice. He played a key role in integrating Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) principles into Vietnam’s Payment for Forest Environmental Services (PFES) scheme and led the development of the intelligent timber tracking system (iTwood) to to enhance timber traceability and transparency in supply chains, supporting the implementation of the Vietnam Timber Legality Assurance System (VNTLAS).
As Director of the Forestry Economic Research Center (FEREC) since 2012, he has led major initiatives on forest economics, market transparency, and digital transformation. He is also an active member of the Vietnam Forest Owners Association (VIFORA) and the Vietnam Economic Science Association of Agriculture and Rural Development.
